A fledgling friendship between alternative country's Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes and Ben Leece started with a mutual musical appreciation.
"We've been knocking around in the same circles and I'm interested in anything Shane Nicholson produced," Bryan said.
"I saw Ben play in Melbourne earlier this year and I'm pretty cliquey when it comes to who I want to work with and I'm quite opinionated.
"But having people we both respect say nice things about each other, we chatted a lot about the tour. That's why it's called the Friends and Acquaintances tour - hopefully we'll come out friends at the end."
The Melbournite wasn't a huge fan of Americana and Country as a kid, his first few bands fell squarely into the Indie category.
Lachlan Bryan and the Wildes started out in the drummer's garage as more of a cover band.
Their first gig was a combined 40th and 21st birthday.
"So we had to have golden oldies and young songs, we were 19 and I didn't like singing classic hits because the voices were so high," Bryan said.
"I got into the music I liked and it kind of went from there, we started playing other people's songs but realised we weren't good at them - that's how my first band started."
The band fell into the hands of producer Jonathan Burnside at a time where they played a lot of rock, known for his work with Grinspoon, it was a bit of a surprise that he steered the band in a different direction.
It's a matter of one of you having an idea and it's quite confronting because you don't want to ruin someone else's good idea.

Lately Bryan has written with the band more than ever and has a newfound respect for the process of co-writing.
"I suppose I always said I wasn't into co-writing but I'm more open to it than I used to be," he said.
"I'm more open to sharing ideas and being a better listener.

With four albums out now, Bryan and the band hope to dust off a couple of older tracks for the Tamworth show.
It will be the first time the full band has come to Tamworth outside of the country music festival.
And, Bryan said he's enjoyed a more creative style of songwriting.
"If I read a book I don't expect everything in there has happened to the author and I apply the same thing to songwriting," he said.
"I like to write fiction, it's definitely inspired by things you've felt, seen or experienced."
The Friends and Acquaintances tour is headed to the Tamworth Hotel on April 20.
