At its most recent meeting, Tamworth Regional Council voted in favour of purchasing more water entitlements to supply Manilla in coming months.
Advice from a water broker suggested the council could temporarily purchase 100 megalitres of water entitlement in the Upper Namoi for between $300 and $400 per megalitre.
Water director Bruce Logan said the purchase was successful.

The purchase of the water was funded from the water reserve.
"It's good to know we have got the 100 Megalitres with a temporary purchase and we will continue to seek a temporary trade of 85 Megalitres from our Upper Namoi Regulated River Source licence used to supply water to Barraba to the licence that provides water from the same source for Manilla," he said.
"Every effort is being made to secure enough water allocation - we want to assure Manilla residents the township won't be running out of water any time soon."
The council had been supplying the town with water from the Manilla River for some time and there was some concern more would be required surplus to the council's 150 megalitre per year entitlement.
It is hoped the trade and purchase will help Manilla make it to the end of the 2018-19 water year.
It comes as the councillors also voted in favour of demanding a meeting with the state's next water minister.
Nationals MP Melinda Pavey was sworn-in as the minister on Tuesday.
The call for a ministerial meeting re-sparked political tensions between former deputy mayor Russell Webb and defeated independent candidate Mark Rodda.
