After defeating premier league champions Tamworth FC in their last round three clash of the nation-wide knockout tournament, the Scorpions stayed alive to enter into the fourth round.
They face North Coast-based Boambee in Coffs Harbour this Saturday.
The Boambee club won five North Coast premierships last year including the top division and South Armidale president Joe Campbell is expecting a tough outing.
"They were undefeated down there in the coastal comp last year and won the premiership down there so they are a very good team," he said.
"We are going down there hoping for a good performance on the field and something we can take into the season."
Their last FFA Cup match against Tamworth saw them field a side which Campbell considered "strong" but didn't believe it "was our best XI."
He said they are closer to deciding who the top team is.
"There are still probably a couple of guys that can come into the team but all in all I think we are getting close to our best 11.
"We have actually got selection dramas this year which is nice to have.
"We have got 15 to 20 first grade quality players to choose from and last year there was probably five or six first grade quality players and filling in with other people.
"It is definitely a nice problem to have."
Despite their success so far this year, Campbell said the players are remaining "level-headed" about the coming premier league season.
