Good luck to Tamworth owner Dean York for his pacer Star Major who will contest the $100,000 Bathurst Gold Chalice final (Group 1) from the 12 barrier.
Trained and driven by James Rattray, Star Major has had 11 race starts for three wins and four placings with the Art Major three-year-old having his last win two starts prior at Penrith on February 21 before finishing third to Shoobee Doo from the Amanda Turnbull stables.
Tamworth-based reinswoman Madi Young was a shining light at the Bathurst Club's Wednesday night meeting when she drove the Malcom Hutchings trained Soldtoyoulady to a win in the Lexus of Dubbo Lady Drivers Invitational Pace.
Young sat in on the leader's back - Its Mesmerise (KerryAnn Turner) - before making the split on the home turn to have a 1.4m win with a mile rate of 1.56.7 for 1730m.
Punters were pleased with the win of Soldtoyoulady who paid $101 on fixed odds and $99 on the tote.
MADI Young also had a win at the Armidale meeting last Thursday when she guided Goodtime Hero to his first career win in taking out the Kelly's Transport Armidale/Landmark Armidale/Super Moto New England Pace.
Trained by Greg Coney at Tamworth, Goodtime Hero had an all-the-way win, clocking a personal best mile rate of 1.58.4 for the 1609m journey.
"I was expecting him to both lead and to do something wrong as he can get really fiery out of the gate but he did everything right," Young said.
"I contested the lead with Tralee Chic (Anthony Varga) then Ladyjoanna Shannon (Mitch Faulkner) eyeballed me for the rest of the way. My fella got a bit keen but still was too good for them.
"It was good to get the win - Greg got him to the races so we have achieved something which is a good feeling."
Goodtime Hero held a 4.7m win over Tralee Chic and Double Martini (Richard Williams) 10m away third.
Too Good For You was exactly that in the feature race at Armidale last week...
WITH Armidale set to race on Sunday, April 7 for their big Carnival of Cups meeting, Lola Weidemann will return with her team after having both a training and driving double at last week's meeting.
Too Good For You was exactly that in the feature race at Armidale last week - too good for his opposition with a 28m win and just outside the track record with a mile rate of 1.57.5 for 1609m.
Commencing from the three-barrier, trainer and reinswoman Lola Weidemann gained the lead keeping Tamworth pacer Shadow Boxing (Tony Missen) racing out in the breeze.
"It was nice to be able to lead," Weidemann said. "I would have held the death seat anyway but I felt he was better than that."
Weidemann let Too Good For You slip along on the final turn into the home straight with confidence in the Dillon's Concrete and Earthworks Uralla Harness Breeders NSW Bonus Scheme Pace.
"I didn't think there should have been anything coming but I looked around to make sure, and then I chased him out and he took off and went good," Weidemann said.
With only 36 career race starts, Too Good For You has recorded six career wins and 17 placings.
"He is still learning and just putting it together," Weidemann said.
Too Good For You had the 28m win over Shadow Boxing (Tony Missen) and Apollon (Dean Chapple) a half head away third.
Weidemann trained and drove a winning double when Fakerocknroll had an all-the-way win in the Uralla Vet Clinic Pace with an eventual win of short half head over Jackeroo Shannon (Sarah Rushbrook) and Ballator Thor (Madi Young) 1.8m away third.
THIRTEEN Tamworth runners will be contesting the Newcastle harness meeting on Saturday night for trainers Chris Sutherland, Neil Kliendienst, Tim Varga, Tony Missen, Ernie Mabbott, Sam Ison, Jarred Hetherington, Peter Rippon and Dean Chapple so make sure you check out the Formguide. Good luck.
THIS week's "top effort" award goes to Armidale track curators Les and Jeff Enks who produced the Armidale Paceway in top order for last week's harness meeting.
With an eight-race program seven sub two-minute wins were produced and one two-minute win - Can't ask for anything better than that!
