Last year the race attracted 100 local high school students, who were put through a series of 16 challenges against the clock in Bicentennial Park.
This year Sustainable North West are hoping to double that number, and have also increased the challenges to 20 individual stations, according to organiser Col Easton, although just what they are will not be known until the day.
"We have linked the challenges and education to curriculum targets to give teachers achievable goals, while still having a great fun day out," he said.
"The race is both a mental and physical challenge, so there is something for everyone and a chance for anyone to win."

Once again this year Tamworth Regional Council have sponsored the Enviro Race, and have joined organisers in calling for fellow organisations or groups to come forward with challenge ideas, or to help out and have a presence on the day.
TRC Sustainability Coordinator Tracey Carr said "it has been great to see the challenge grow and evolve each year."
"We were really pleased to get the opportunity to sponsor the event, and encourage all schools to become involved," she said.
Registrations close on Thursday, and can be made via the Sustainable North West website.
