The $8.2 million redevelopment of Tamworth Public School is set to go ahead after receiving final approval from the Northern Region Planning Panel.

The four person panel met briefly in council chambers on Thursday, however after receiving no objections or submissions from the public approval was swiftly given.
Panel Chair Garry West complimented consultants TSA on an "excellent job combining the existing heritage buildings with the new buildings" in the plan.

The redevelopment includes the demolition of two blocks and removal of four demountables, and the construction of a new two storey building with seven classrooms, including wheelchair access and an elevator.
A new school hall, capable of holding 1200 students, will be developed where the current staff room is situated, and a new staff room built where the current school hall is, while some extra outdoor areas are also being developed.
Initial works have already started on the development, which is hoped to be completed in early 2020.
