The Tamworth-based summer grains researcher has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the northern grains industry, with the Grains Research and Development Corporation's 2019 Seed of Light award.
Ms Serafin said she was "honoured to receive this award from the GRDC and feel humbled to be recognised".
"A key part of my position with NSW DPI is linking agronomists, advisers, agribusiness professionals and researchers to foster better communication and ensure research investments are responding to regional needs," she said.
"I get genuine job satisfaction from knowing growers are getting the information and knowledge they need on-farm to answer the questions and concerns they have about production constraints."

The award was presented during a gala dinner in Goondiwindi as part of the GRDC Grains Research Updates.
It recognises a person who has made a significant contribution to communicating the importance and relevance of research outcomes to the wider grains industry.
Ms Serafin has become well-known for her more than 10 years' work in summer crop agronomy.
GRDC northern region panel chairman John Minogue said she'd had "a major impact on summer crop agronomy research, particularly in northern NSW".
"[She] is well-respected for her ability to fine-tune research questions in a way that provides practical answers to growers," he said.
"She also understands growers need the latest, relevant research information delivered in a way that allows them to make informed decisions and apply the learnings on-farm.
"It is this dynamical approach to both research and communication that has earned her this award."
