WILLAROON Farm grazier Dave McGuffog wasn't what you would call a happy little camper when he copped a flat battery in his car while waiting for his better half Shirley to return to the McHatton Park bus stop by coach with a heap of other locals who had attended a Daniel O'Donnell concert in Newcastle last weekend.

WITH the bus running late, Dave parked the car and sat in it but must have forgotten to turn off the lights, which ended up flattening the battery, much to his delight. Shirl explained that had Dave jumped out of the vehicle, the lights would have turned off automatically and the drama would have been avoided. But it was nothing a friendly visit from the NRMA couldn't fix.
CROUDACE Street resident Willy Wicks was a bit late getting to work last week but it had nothing to do with him sleeping in or the alarm not going off. The jack-of-all-trades was on his way to the job site when he stopped to open his gate and somehow locked his keys in his vehicle with the motor still running.
RUMOUR has it the spare key was in the glovebox and he had to wait a while before he could receive assistance to relieve his problem. By the time a good samaritan had turned up, willy was a few litres of fuel shorter, but happy to get going again.
WHILE watching the Walcha News Cup cricket major semi-final at Uralla last Saturday, I menitoned to my much-much better half Linda and her mother Ida Hoy that a spectator close by looked remarkably like Walcha resident Antonio White. When both of them disagreed with me, I countered with, "well if it's not him, it must be his twin brother". As it turned out, it was "Anto" alright.
There shouldn't be any fights between the two children who reside at 'Ballacorach' next Monday night, simply because they won't have enough energy to do so.
AT the Telecottage earlier in the week, a statement was made by CEO Anthea Macpherson about how things go a little haywire on the odd occasion, explaining it all depended on how much coffee and cake the office girls drank. Drinking cake - little wonder things get a bit out of whack!
REGULAR early morning swimmer, Legge Street resident and Rams "mike man" Donald McHatton reckons he received a bit of a fright when he got caught in a rip at Town Beach, Port Macquarie, while enjoying a dip in the ocean recently. Don said he was extremely happy when he finally made it back onto solid ground after battling the undertow.
RUGBY league footy tipsters should be aware the NRL kicks off in a fortnight's time and it would be a good idea to enter at your workplace, favourite pub or club if you are interested in taking part in any such competition. Most places are in the process of taking nominations now.
IF a player cards an eagle during a competition round at the Walcha Golf Course, they collect whatever balls are in the "Eagle's Nest" which increases by a ball a week thanks to the sponsorship of Neil Dark Plumbing, until someone shots two under par on any given hole.
THREE weeks ago, Caroline Street aced the third hole and collected 15 balls, so David Sweeney and Michael Stackman would be entitled to feel a bit hardly done by following their efforts during the past fortnight. A couple of Sundays ago, "Sween" eagled the 6th and then "Des" eagled the 14th last Sunday, with both blokes picking up one ball each. Talk about good timing and bad timing all at once, boys.
ON arrival at the pool on Tuesday for swimming club, Jake Wellings was signing the season ticket book when he forgot what his family ticket number was. When Jake's old man Stu arrived shortly after, Jake asked him what their "postcode number" was so he could enter it in the book.
THERE shouldn't be any fights between the two children who reside at "Ballacorach" next Monday night, simply because they won't have enough energy to do so. Jemma Warden has qualified for six individual events and relay at the NorthWest PSSA swim trials in Armidale next Monday representing Walcha Central School while her younger brother Hamish has also qualified for all events and will represent Ben Venue.
