Diverse skills and a commitment to work hard is, specialist career promoter Sergeant Paul Gallaway said.
His team is visiting the north west to talk to rural candidates about potential futures in defence.
“You can’t pick an ideal candidate because the job is so diverse and so is the workforce,” he said.
“I love getting the men and women from the country, they are straightforward, straight-shooting and resilient.

“Country people are going through tough times at the moment and they bring that resilience with them and there’s a lot of good skills they can take back to their community.”
Jobs in the defence force can range from cybersecurity to jet pilots, clerical staff and combat soldiers – nobody is expected to have prior knowledge but they will have a drive to improve themselves, Sergeant Gallaway said.
And, Sergeant Gallaway will come to Tamworth for school workshops and an information session on February 21 at Ibis Styles from 6pm to 7pm.
