The inaugural Great Australian Round Up is being held at the AELEC this weekend after council waived $20,000 of the hiring fee for the venue.
The event is an initiative of the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association and features events ranging from rodeo and barrel racing, working dog trials and a stockmen’s challenge through to ute and truck shows and everything in between, complete “with a fairground atmosphere.”

While the entertainment kicks off at 10am Saturday morning the main event will hit the ring at 6pm, when Guy McLean and his infamous stock horses, as seen on Australia’s Got Talent, wow the crowd, followed by some of the best rodeo and bronc riders on the circuit going head to head into the night.
There will also be water slides and rides for the kids, as well as a petting zoo and pony rides.
Mayor Col Murray said waiving the fee was a one off sponsorship to assist the concept to find it’s feet, while also promoting the AELEC as a world class facility.
“Supporting such an event builds on the experience of the Country Music Festival attendees, and aligns with our commitment to develop an active healthy community, he said.
Entry is free between 10am and 4pm each day.
