CHAD Sinclair is a self-described lounge room singer.
His haunting ballad Upon Me just won the Fretfest Regional Song Contest.
“I was teaching my daughter to put some lyrics together for her HSC music,” he said.
“I told her to look at things around you and use that as inspiration, the mountains, shadows, wind – it sort of evolved from that.”
The 53-year-old Tamworth local lives on a farm just outside town, he won the Golden Oldies section of the Tamworth Battle of New Stars in 2017.
As the winner of the contest, Sinclair has a six month membership with Fretfest and a remix of his song which will be launched on iTunes.
If it’s something people connect to and want to hear, that’s great.Chad Sinclair
He describes his style as a mix between old and new, with touches of a traditional yodelling sound.
Not going on world tour anytime soon, Sinclair is happy to stick to his lounge room and perhaps write songs for others to perform.
“I was shocked when I won, I felt like it was an acknowledgement that your songs hit the mark and they’re current,” he said.
“If it’s something people connect to and want to hear, that’s great.”
Sinclair is performing at country music festival on January 24 to 26.
