The bureau has predicted a heat wave will sweep across four states in the coming days prompting health and fire warnings.
According to Elders Weather, the mercury will climb to 37 degrees for the next four days before climbing to 38 on New Year’s Eve.

It follows a drier than average December for Tamworth, with only 51.6mm of registered at the airport for the entire month.
The long-term December rainfall average for Tamworth is 84.9mm.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has issued very high fire danger ratings for the Northern Slopes and North Western regions.
NSW Health also issued a warning with hot temperatures and potential “ozone pollution” on the way.
“As ozone can irritate the lungs, people with asthma need to follow their Asthma Action Plan and take their relieving medication where necessary. If symptoms get worse, they need to seek medical advice,” NSW Health executive director Jeremy McAnulty said.
