The game between Tamilla and Oxley Legends was recommended as a must-watch, and it absolutely delivered with a clash that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
Tamilla delivered first when Samantha McCubbin scored in the opening seconds and Oxley’s Georgia Griffiths countered immediately after. McCubbin went in again followed by Samantha Schubert from Oxley giving us an idea of how the game would progress.
Each change in possession resulted in points most of the time. Tamilla’s scorers in the first half were Hayley Beck who evened her single with the game’s first three.
Sophie Good made her mark twice as did Erin Hansen who placed herself to get two rebounds and capitalise. Samantha McCubbin showed her skill and potted three more to finish the team on 22 points.
Oxley’s scoring was dominated by Georgia Griffiths who put 19 points onto the scoreboard. Samantha Schubert added another basket as did Imogen Collett and Ronika Brown finished with a three to put her team five ahead on 27 points.
The second half started with the same energy and enthusiasm as the first and Oxley scored first when Ronika Brown sunk her basket and Georgia Griffiths added one of her fouls. Samantha McCubbin countered with a three-pointer for Tamilla but Oxley came back with Lori Rivenell and Samantha Schuberth scoring in quick succession.
McCubbin went in again before Schuberth and then Tamilla had a break away with McCubbin and Sophie Good putting seven points on the board. Oxley came back with another basket from Schuberth and Tamilla’s McCubbin did the same.
Schuberth again scored before McCubbin and her teammates Marnie Currey-Steadman and Sophie Good evened the game on 42 points. A single from Good put Tamilla in the lead for the first time in this half.
The lead was short-lived as Ronika Brown showed her skill at the basket and then McCubbin was in again. Brown was able to sink two in a row to put the Legends three points ahead with two minutes to go.
Oxley kept the score at a standstill, keeping possession from Tamilla and upping defence at the hoop, and the score was 48-45 at full time.
This game was a series of highs and lows for the spectators and players on both sides and kept all attention on the court with the ladies’ skill.
