On Wednesday, GJ Gardner handed over a $14,000 cheque to Tamworth Regional Council, who are coordinating the R U Aware We Care campaign.
GJ Gardner’s annual Tamworth charity golf day, held in October and attended by just under 100 people, raised $12,000.
Tamworth GJ Gardner owner Daniel Urquhart said another $2000 was raised through its “Fab Slab Month”, where the business made a donation every time it poured a slab in September.
“With everything that’s going on with the farmers, it’s the biggest need in town and such a worthwhile thing to give to,” Mr Urquhart said.
“I think everybody see the impacts of the drought in some way or another.
“Our industry is probably slowed a bit, but we’re lucky Tamworth’s big now, so it’s not so affected by drought.
“We’re just happy to do our bit for what is a worthwhile cause.”
Tamworth mayor Col Murray said the donation by GJ Gardner was “fabulous”.
“$14,000 is a lot of money under any circumstances, particularly when we are in the midst of one of the worst droughts in history,” Cr Murray said.
“There’s a bit of tightening in the construction industry, so this is just an amazing donation.
“One of the good things about the R U Aware We Care campaign is that every single cent that is donated stays local.
“We are still getting donations come in. We’ll keep that pathway open to receive more donations.”
