After the decision to postpone the rodeo for the first time since World War II was made earlier in the week, the Upper Horton Rodeo committee has been hard at work planning a community event to run in its place.
Committee secretary Paul Kelly told the Leader the community was determined to come together and “keep the tradition alive”.
“The drought may have been the reason we had to cancel the campdraft and rodeo, but it’s not going to stop us from coming together,” Kelly said.
“Coming together is the best part about living in a small community and these things are difficult to start up again once they stop.
“That’s why the committee with the support of the community, was working to ensure we hosted something.”

Following a community meeting, a fundraiser with live entertainment, free camping and hot food will run at the Upper Horton Sports Club on New Year’s Eve.
“It will be a great night out for the whole family,” Kelly said.
“There will be entertainment for the kids as well as food and drinks throughout the night.
“As well as that, there will be live music from Jarrod Taylor and the Iron Shackles, free camping and free parking.
“It’s just a night for the whole family to kick-back, relax and take a break from everything.”
Kelly said the proceeds of a fundraising auction would go towards supporting the club in the future.
“We actually have a signed Roosters premiership jumper up for bids at the auction,” he said.
“It’s a top-notch item and hopefully should draw in a few bids.
“It’s going to be a great night and hopefully we can see a lot of people there.”
