The 1990 Star Maker winner credits the country music capital with his meteoric rise to fame, and festival organiser Barry Harley couldn’t be more thrilled to have him back.
But, fans better get in quick, with tickets on sale at 10am.
“I think one of the reasons why Keith’s production and tour crew have pushed for this intimate concert in the town hall is because that’s where Keith started,” Mr Harley said.
“He has a lot of history here, as an eight-year-old he won the CCMA Talent Quest as the best all round under 10, and went on to win many more.
“As the large business of Keith Urban established the Graffiti U World Tour, the penny has dropped that he was in Australia and wasn’t at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.”
There’s only 1000 tickets on offer, with all proceeds from the intimate concert going to Rural Aid for drought relief.
The Leader understands tickets will be priced low, an opportunity for the everyday fan to see Urban in concert.
The news comes after the Hay Mate Buy A Bale Concert was held in Tamworth in October, with huge names like John Farnham, Guy Sebastion, Daryl Braithwaite and The Veronicas raising more than $2 million for farmers.
It’s just another example of country artists pitching in when the going gets tough Mr Harley said.
“It’s almost historical that if there’s trouble country artists put their hands up, whether it be fire, drought or someone’s loss,” he said.
“It seems to me the country fraternity are the first to put their hands up possibly because they’re more engaged with the country, their music is wrapped around what it’s like to live in Australia.

“It’s not about cosmopolitan life it’s about caring, sharing hope and all the sentiments.”
The announcement of Urban’s concert secures Tamworth’s position as the country music capital, Mr Harley said, and its expected to draw even more fans to the region hoping to catch a glimpse of the star.
