Back by popular demand, the Backtrack Boys documentary will be given three extra screenings this weekend at Tamworth’s Forum 6 Cinemas.
The film, which tells the story of three boys involved in Armidale’s Backtrack Youth Works program, was released to critical acclaim on the film festival circuit earlier this year, scooping up plenty of gongs along the way.
Tamworth will soon be home to its own Backtrack type program courtesy of Challenge Community Services, with CEO Barry Murphy urging the public to get out and see the inspiring, yet hauntingly somber film.
In fact he was so inspired by the documentary that he subsidised ticket costs for Challenge staff members.
“I came out of the cinema even more determined to get our program up and running,” he said.
“I just want our staff and the community to get behind it so we can make a difference.”
Challenge are using profits made from their recycling service and the Container Deposit Scheme to fund the program, and are urging community members to continue using residential recycling bins to aid the cause.
The additional screenings of Backtrack Boys will be shown this Friday at 12.50pm, Saturday at 8.30pm and Sunday at 12.10pm.
