Trainers from NSW and Queensland offered an increased number of dogs. This year’s fixture catalogued 38 dogs offered and 35 sold.

AuctionsPlus had 66 buyers registered online with 58 bidding at auction and 10 successful purchasers, complementing a good crowd at the Glen Innes Showground. The activity reflects a genuine need for well-trained and educated dogs.

Glen Innes has consolidated its reputation as a great venue to sell working dogs. The top-priced dog at this year’s fixture was lot 17 – account Tim Mackie from Wallabadah – selling Harris Farm Jimmy, a two-year-old black-and-tan kelpie, to local livestock carrier Aaron Jones for $10,750.

Numerous high sales were recorded. Damien Meppem from Gurley sold lot 35, a 15-and-a-half-month black-and-tan kelpie selling to $9000. Other high sellers included Tony Overton of Walcha, with an 11-and-a-half-month cream kelpie dog to $7250 and Ross Fletcher Congarinni selling a black-and-tan kelpie dog to $7000.

The RMA Network Open Cattle Dog Trial was won by Tony Overton with “Sarge” while the RMA sheep dog trial was won by Scott Bridge with “Flirt”. Ninety runs were conducted in the open cattle trial and 27 in the vendor trial. Meanwhile 32 runs were conducted in the open sheep trial and 15 runs in the vendor sheep trial.

Jai Moar of Armidale scooped the pool winning the open sheep and open cattle trial in a strong field of open dog handlers.

Colin Say & Co were again at the forefront of the sale cataloguing and selling the dogs. Rural Marketing Agents John Peden thanked judges John Rosten of Armidale and Alan Fletcher of Glen Innes.

The event received terrific sponsorship support from Lockyer's Livestock Transport and Lockyer's Ground Spreading, Rabobank, Alt Brothers Pastoral, New England Stock Yards, Jone’s Transport, Glen Innes Showground Trust and caterer Helen Morgan over the two-day event.
