TAMWORTH Regional Council is holding off on adding fluoride to water supplies in some of the region’s villages.
Supplies in Attunga, Barraba, Bendemeer and Nundle are currently not fluoridated, but as the NSW government updates its code regarding the chemical in community water, council has voted to hold tight.
Councillor Juanita Wilson wanted to see the issue “kept on the books” but anticipated some blow back if the change water supplies was mandated throughout the region.

“I hope this is followed up in the future, but if we decide to fluoridate, there would be a string of opposition various reasons,” she said.
“I know there is a person absolutely anti-fluoride at Nundle who’s addressed us several times.”
Fluoride is currently added to the main Tamworth supply which is reticulated through the city, Moonbi and Kootingal.
