Goals to Bailey Campbell, who scored early in the piece, and Troy Hearfield – a headed goal which coach Greg Bartlett described as “outstanding” – sealed the victory for Tamworth FC.
“It’s pretty special, the guys played well again. We had a completely different team again yesterday. Our three up front were missing but it was a good game to watch,” Bartlett said.
“OVA had some missing, too, so credit to them as well.
Bartlett added: “It’s a real credit to the players.
“We’ve got guys who don’t train with us but travel every week to play for us. The effort makes it even more special.”
Those players include goalscorer Campbell, who makes the trip from Narrabri and Inverell duo Jackson Haussler and Hamish Migheli.
In Armidale, South Armidale scored their first victory of the season.
In doing so, they also doubled their goals scored for the year as they accounted for North Armidale 5-1.
Also in Armidale, East Armidale locked up second position on the ladder with a 2-0 over North Companions.
Tamworth FC will meet East Armidale at Johnson Field next week for a spot in the grand final.
“They’re a good team. They have some good players,” Bartlett said of Easts.
“It won’t be easy. It should be a good game and it’ll be pretty tough.
“We had to sit Ross Price and Kurt Barrow out with yellow card issues [on Saturday] but they’ll be back and we should have our best team of the year on the park. There’s no excuses.”
Tamworth FC also had a 2-0 win in reserve grade to complete a “good day for the club” while North Companions beat East Armidale 4-0.
