Five new records were set at the 2018 North West Secondary Athletics Carnival with Quirindi High School’s Lacie Quigley claiming two of them.
Amazingly, one of the records Quigley broke was her own mark set the previous year in the 14 years 1500m.
She notched a time of 4:45:63 to shave more than four seconds off her previous record.
Quigley then broke K Beattie’s record, which was set in 1991, in the 14 years 3000m event by about 17 seconds.
Narrabri High School’s Bella Stewart set a new mark of 1.68m in the 17 years and over high jump. She beat Moree Secondary College’s Sharnae Widders-Smith’s 2013 jump of 1.64m.
Glen Innes High School’s Kaleb Hope was also a record breaker with his throw of 41.92m in the 13 years javelin to beat T Lane of Coonamble High School’s record of 41.11m from 1999.
Finally, Quirindi High School’s Lachlan Tydings threw 52.01m in the 17 years and over discus to beat Tenterfield High School’s Chris Mikkleson’s 2003 record of 51.3m.
Three students showed off their all-round talent to be selected to compete at the NSW CHS Carnival in six separate events.
In total, 193 students from North West Schools qualified to compete at the NSW CHS carnival in Sydney on September 5-7.
