For most of her life, Sharnee Magner wasn’t all that drawn to team sports.
Athletics was her thing until Magner dipped her toe into the world of rugby union last year.
Playing in her school side at Calrossy, Magner instantly took a liking to the sport and signed up to play with Pirates this year.
A rapid rise ensued.
The winger gained selection for Central North and has now been named in the UNE Lions squad for the 2018 Aon Uni 7s Series.
“I was actually surprised but I was really happy,” Magner said of her selection.
The first round of the series will be held on August 25-26 in Tasmania.
Before that, the Lions will have their training camp together. It will be their second camp together and Magner is hoping to soak up as much knowledge as she can.
“You learn so much from all of them,” Magner said of her teammates.
“There’s some really experienced players in there. I’ve learnt so much from all of them already.”
As for playing in the Uni 7s Series, Magner knew one thing was certain.
“It’s definitely going to be a massive step up,” Magner said.
“It might be a bit intimidating but we’ll see.”
