Kicking off at 10am and running through to around 2pm, the carnival will feature under-8s, under-10s and under-12s teams from clubs across the north west as well as visiting Maitland Blacks, who are bringing up five teams.
“That’s an additional bonus to what we normally have,” Tri-Colours president Peter Toole said.
“We’re really looking forward to a good day.”
“Those sorts of numbers (500) are the best we’ve had in a couple of years.”
The club is also doing it’s bit to support drought-affected farmers and will be donating $500 of the proceeds of the day to the “R U Aware We Care” campaign.
“We’ve got lots of farming and rural-based families and kids that are impacted by the drought,” Toole said.
“We’ve got kids that don’t make it to gala days because mum and dad are feeding stock.”
There will be three more gala days to follow the Tamworth carnival – Quirindi, Moree and Armidale.
