A Tamworth hairdresser has thrown out a challenge for the local industry to band together and get around farmers and their families the best way they can.
Babs Sharp from Illegal Lengths in Hair is offering free haircuts to all farmers and their families every wednesday in August, and is urging all her fellow hairdressers and barbers to follow suit.
The idea hit Mrs Sharp as she was reading about Manilla man Adam Memorey’s efforts in supporting farmers.

“We chatted about giving away some shampoo and conditioners and things like that, but then we thought no, we can do better than that,” she said.
“A lot of people are helping out and concerned with feed at the moment, but there is a huge mental side as well.
“This is an opportunity to get off the farm, come in have a cuppa and a chat and get a haircut – it is an easy thing for us to offer.”
Mrs Sharp put the offer on Facebook on Wednesday, and it went viral with 1100 shares in the first 24 hours.
“There has been a huge response which is why we want every salon and barber to do the same,” she said.
“This is not about business, this is about support and personal interaction – I was talking to a lady whose family have been washing their hair in the creek once a week because they don’t have water.”
The offer is open to all farmers and their families on Wednesdays from 9am until 12pm, and includes the full service of shampoo, cut and dry. Bookings are advised but walk-ins are also accepted.
