The NAIDOC Week school holidays program is about to kick off, with three days of traditional weaving and dancing.
The free program will be held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 10am to 4.30pm, at the Youthie.
Gomeroi Dance Company member Marc Sutherland said the dance reflected the theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week, “Because of Her We Can”, and would be performed at the family fun day and corroboree on Friday, July 13.
“They’re learning about the importance of dance and the important role of the mother,” Mr Sutherland said.
“In our culture, we are taught the importance of the mother, who is our provider. She is the earth that we all come from, who gives us strength and we pass on her stories.”
