The North West/New England area finals for the Bill Turner soccer competitions are upon us and it will be a battle between Armidale and Tamworth on Friday.
Armidale’s Duval High School will play Tamworth’s Oxley High School at Rologas Sporting Fields in the Bill Turner Cup (boys) while the Bill Turner Trophy (girls) has Tamworth’s Carinya Christian School up against Armidale’s O'Connor Catholic College at Gipps St Fields.
The winners of the area finals will progress to the round of 32 stage of the national knockout competition for players aged 15 and under.

Carinya sports coordinator Charles Bickersteth said the students were loving every chance to get out on the field.
“The girls are enjoying playing a lot of football with most of the girls in the Bill Turner team also playing football in the local weekend competition,” he said.
“We have talent across the field, and the girls work incredibly well together.”
There will be no rest for the girls after this week, though.
The Carinya side, along with the school’s open boys team, both won the Hunter Zone Christian School's Gala day in May. They progressed into the state finals to be played in Sydney on June 28.
