Tamworth local Stephanie Penrose has recorded her debut pop country single Take Me Home

The Tamworth local grew up on a property surrounded by horses, and said you can hear her country heritage in her music.

“With my music I try not to confine it to a genre because then it’s more creative,” she said.

“If you’ve ever loved someone but it’s been controversial because there’s parts of it you had and it puts a weight on your shoulders being with them, the song looks at the beauty and the beast of the relationship.”

The singer songwriter hopes the song will bring closure to listeners in similar situations. 

She’s a graduate of the 2017 CMAA Academy of Country Music senior course, and she said songs come to her out of the blue.

“I write it in about five minutes, as soon as I have an idea everything’s easy when it’s not great, meaning when things are black and white it’s easy to understand but in this relationship it’s grey,” she said.

“During high school due to bullying I stopped singing, I stopped music, I didn’t want to do that because of the critics and I didn’t have the self confidence to keep going.

“When I left school I realised that’s where my passion was and I shouldn’t let anyone get in the way of that.”

Penrose has moved to the Central Coast where she recently shot the film clip for her song and hopes to enter the Tamworth Country Music Festival Star Maker competition to boost her career in 2020.

Her next singe will come out at the end of the year.
