LAST year’s winner, Terrigal, included Walcha player Mick Steep, who teamed up with Hadley Pullin and Barry Brown. They won three games 39 ends to finish runners-up, while Sawtell’s Paul Newman, Trevor and Anthony Baker came third with three wins 37 ends.
ALTHOUGH another Walcha team Ken “Fred” Cameron, his brother Christopher and Robert “Jamie” Kerr also racked up three wins, they were counted out of third position after winning 33 ends.
NEW England Hotel 2IC Bob Denniss and “mollydooker” Mal Ballard registered an amazing score of 49 nett last Sunday – a total that probably won’t ever be beaten. That’s because in the majority of two-person ambrose events, which was contested last Sunday, teams normally deduct one-quarter of their total handicap, but for some reason last Sunday, captain Willy Brennan decided the deduction would be half the total handicap. No wonder there were plenty of good scores handed in at Sunday’s event.
BEST of luck to the Walcha Central School athletes who will be competing in the North-West Cross Country Championships at Coolah tomorrow. The secondary schools winners are first off in the morning while the primary people hit the trails in the afternoon in an attempt to qualify for the state championships in Sydney.
WALCHA will be represented by Chloe Worth, Chariza and Anastasia Haling, Phoebe William and Jackson Imberger, Beau Abraham, Sam Feltham and Tyran Bloomfield in the secondary competition, while Harriet and Bella Crawford, Jemma and Hamish Warden, Preston Latham, Emily and Stephanie Blake will there to fly the primary flag. Go Walcha.
NO local footy last weekend due to the June long weekend and won’t be again for the Rams this weekend when they receive the Central North bye. Walcha are currently in sixth position on the ladder and will receive five competition points for the bye.
RUGBY league returns to the Park when Walcha host Guyra this Sunday in both Group 19 second division as well as ladies league tag. The Walcha Jillaroos are currently in second position on the league tag ladder and will kick off Sunday’s proceedings at 1pm. Guyra are currently sitting in fourth spot on the men’s ladder, two points behind equal competition leaders Warialda, Tenterfield and Uralla.
