A number of local volunteer based organisations are in desperate need of extra helping hands, and many of them took the opportuntiy to recruit at the Volunteer Expo on Tuesday afternoon. National Volunteers Week not only shines a spotlight on the selfless people that are already chipping in, but also highlights the ongoing need for more volunteers. The theme this year is Give a Little to Change a Lot, and Tamworth Regional Council Volunteer Coordinator Veronica Filby said it can mean just that. “We are focussing on the benefits of volunteering for all ages,” she said. “If everyone just gave an hour a week all of these essential services that rely on volunteers could continue doing what they do – helping the community.” This Thursday will see Tamworth’s Volunteer of the Year announced, as well as several other awards during an awards ceremony at the Community Centre starting at 10am.
