Playing in Division 2 after only forming – or reforming as the case may be – this year, the Frogs defeated Nepean 3-2 in a pulsating final to claim the silverware.
It was a long time coming, with the side pretty well a reincarnation of the Frogs open men’s sides that played around the mid-2000’s, and made the state championship final in 2006.
“It was a really good weekend. We’ve all grown up going through the age groups together and played together for many years,” captain Sam Lobsey said.
He was one of the stars of the show for the Frogs, and was along with Robbie Campbell named in the NSW 35s side to contest the nationals later in the year.
It’s been about 15 years since Lobsey last played for NSW.
“21s was my last state team,” he said.
“It’ll be pretty good. I’ll probably be playing with a few guys I played with in 21s.”
The Frogs showed their class through their pool games and cruised through to the final, but found Nepean a tougher proposition than in their earlier clash, which they won 6-nil.
“We got an early goal and we felt pretty comfortable.
“They hit back about five minutes later to level, and got another quick one to lead 2-1 at half-time,” Lobsey said.
Campbell, who was named captain of the NSW side, got the Frogs back on level terms, after a “lot of good passing and releading to get him into space in the circle”.
Richard Done then sealed the victory with around six minutes to go.
Lobsey thought the fact they had won their round games so easily contributed to the closer result.
“When it came to the grand final we weren’t ready for upping the ante,” he said.
Nepean also put a bit more pressure on them. Especially in the first half they had a fair few chances “to try and seal the deal early” but they couldn’t convert them.
The talk has already turned to next year where they will contest A Division and likely come up against some former nemesis.
“Everyone enjoyed themselves,” Lobsey said.
“I dare say they’ll be back for more.”
