But now she is the happy owner of Obi-Bun Kenobi, a pet rabbit who has been voted the cutest pet from a gallery of animals owned by the staff members of Fairfax Media’s newspapers in the New England and North West region (which includes Goondiwindi in Queensland).
Hannah, who works in advertising at The Armidale Express, entered the photo of her rabbit in the staff competition, where readers were asked to vote for the cutest animal.
After winning, Hannah explained how she came to own the unusual pet.
It was almost a year ago that she went into the pet shop in Armidale, dragging along her boyfriend Ben and another friend, looking for a pet that would be suitable to live inside their flat.
That could have meant getting a small dog or a cat, but Hannah said she did not have a specific pet in mind. Then she spotted the black rabbit.
“You’re limited to what you can get when looking for pets when you live in a small place,” Hannah said.
“But when we saw him, I fell in love with him and had to get him.”
Both Hannah and Ben are Star Wars fans, so when it came to picking a name, they altered the name of a character Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Obi-Bun Kenobi, the bun being short for bunny.
“I didn’t know what to expect getting a rabbit. I thought he might just sit quietly, but he runs around and does tricks, and he gets excited when we have visitors,” she said.
Obi has his own Instagram page, which you can follow at @obi.bun.
