Local music legend Buddy Knox and his youngest son Goori have proved to the industry they’re a force to be reckoned with after taking out the Sydney Blues Society Performer of the Year competition.
It’s a big victory for the duo who are now preparing to jet off to Memphis, Tennessee early next year to represent NSW/ACT at the International Blues Challenge.
Buddy Knox is a well-known local musician in the Tamworth scene and beyond.
He said he was confident he and his son could take out the competition against some tough competitors.
“I’m feeling really good about it,” he said.
“I really think we’re going to win it. I’m going there to win it.”
Mr Knox and Goori spoke about the moment they found out they won the Challenge.
Mr Knox said he didn’t hear their name called out over the crowd until Goori told him.
“I’m pretty pumped about it,” Goori told The Leader.
“I haven’t been to America yet, It’s my first trip.
“To go over there for a competition is pretty cool because Memphis is home of the blues.
“It will be good to see what it is all about. But we’re going to win and I say that with full confidence.”
The duo have been performing together for more than a decade and Goori said it all just feels “normal” and natural.
“Blues isn’t my first genre, it’s his genre and to be able to experience that with him is really exciting and really fun,” he said.
”Blues is one of the coolest genres in the world.
“It’s nice to realise that we are possibly a world class act.
“We didn’t really think about it that we, we just do what we do so it is really cool and humbling.
“There is going to be some really serious competition that we’ll have to show up and we’ll have a blast aswell.”
The dynamic local duo will jet off to the United States in January where they will compete against the best in the blues genre business in the international competition between January 16 and January 20.
