SOMEONE forgot to tell Round Swamp Cricket team to read the script before they played Colts in the Turton Cup final last Saturday at the Park. Only those two clubs in the Walcha competition have played in the past eight Turton Cup deciders, each club winning the title alternatively well up to this season when Swamp went back-to-back last Saturday and broke the sequence.

MAN of the Match Steve Eveleigh led from the front after opening “Swampy” batting and remained unconquered on 89 at the end of their allotted 20 overs. “Dizzy” took a particular liking to the bowling of Brad Dade when he belted him to the boundary four times and then lifted him over the fence on a couple of occasions in the space of two overs. It ended up costing the bowler 32 runs all up.
Hoy in a hurry
VETERAN skipper Barry Hoy was in a hurry from the word go, knocking up a quick fire 32 before he ran himself out. He accumulated 26 of those runs in boundaries with three fours and one six taken from one Cameron Little over.

THIS Saturday, weather permitting, the 40-over Walcha News Cup commences with Colts travelling to Uralla and Swamp taking on Kentucky here at the Park. Rugby League have the bye.
League update
WALCHA Rugby League Club president Michael Aspinall and former club boss Peter Berry attended the Group 4 annual general meeting last Sunday and returned home none the wiser about what is going on next year.
A DRAW was presented at the meeting but only dates were listed instead of which teams would be playing on that particular day. Another meeting to address the issue is planned in a fortnight’s time.
LAST Sunday, Group 4 president Mick Schmiedel stood down and handed the reigns over to former vice-president Ray McCoy. There are certainly some big decisions to be made before next season and hopefully things will be clearer when a proper draw is made.
Flippers return
THE Walcha Flippers held their annual general meeting recently where all the old suspects were returned to their committee positions. They were: Flippers president Angus Warden, secretary Cathy Mackaway, treasurer Cameron Greig, starter Ian Crawford, recording secretary Yolanda Mooney and publicity officer yours truly A. J. Cross.
ALL the swimming club action commences next Tuesday after school with a sign-on day first up to be followed by some races to establish which group each swimmer will be listed in for the season. For more details about the Walcha swimming club, please contact president Gus.
THE Walcha Memorial Baths, in Middle Street, Walcha, are open from mid-November until March. Season tickets for swimmers are only available for purchase from the Walcha council office. Come and beat the summer heat at the pool.
