Days after Deasey took out the overall interschool crown with wins in the time trial, the criterium and the road race, he broke his arm following a stack at a mountain bike camp.
I was really happy with how I rode. Just knowing all the work that’s been done is paying off.

Amazingly, he still rode the following day before heading to hospital to get his arm looked at.
“It didn't hurt [at first]. I was playing a game that night and felt something go and that’s when it started hurting. It was a restless night,” Deasey said.
As far as fracturing an arm goes, it came at the perfect time – if there’s such thing as one – for Deasey as he heads into a break from competition.
The arm will see him out for roughly nine weeks but he’ll still be able to train as he aims to keep in good nick and replicate his form from the interschool championship heading into the future.
The championship was held on September 24 with the students competing in the time trial first.
Deasey got off to a flying start with a lap record despite not being at 100 per cent.
“I was actually feeling pretty average on the day. My legs felt a bit sore,” Deasey said.
“So it felt pretty good [to win] because I didn't think I went that fast.
“I just thought ‘I need to get through it and see if I can win all three’.”
The 15-year-old’s mental strength shone through as he snagged wins in the next two races to close out the clean sweep.
“I was really happy with how I rode. Just knowing all the work that’s been done is paying off,” Deasey said.
