Last Saturday night Never Die won the Lounges Plus Stocktake Sale Pace eclipsing his opposition by 25 metres at Paceway Tamworth with a mile rate of 2.00.4 for 2360 metres.
Trainer Richard Williams then slipped Never Die down the highway to compete at the Newcastle meeting on Monday afternoon and once again waved goodbye to his opposition with a 15 metre win in the Follow Us On Twitter-Newcastle Harness Pace with a mile rate of 1.56.7 for 1609 metres.
The Williams Racing Team is heading back to Newcastle tomorrow night with another four runners including Never Die in the hope of three wins on the trot.
Maitland reinsman Dan Morgan has had the best week possible after driving the winner of the final race of the HRNSW Rising Star Series at Menangle on Sunday afternoon.
Morgan drove the Shane Sanderson trained I’m A Smoocha to a 4.2 metre win and a mile rate of 1.52.2 for 1609 metres.
With heats conducted at Young, Bathurst, Penrith and Newcastle the trip was an experience of a lifetime and Morgan finished off a good week by celebrating his 21st birthday.
Ellen Rixon was the overall winner on points in taking out the HRNSW Rising Star Series with the grand-daughter of AD Turnbull set for a big future in the industry. Ellen is the daughter of Cindy and Peter Rixon.
“It was a thrill to be able to win the series and it will be a week that I won’t forget,” Rixon said.
“There were many great experiences and being able to share it with friends made it all that more memorable.”
Rixon finished on 84 points five points ahead of Steph Lippiat on 79 and Peter McRae on 72.
Rixon is hoping these good results can help elevate her to the ranks of a full-time professional driver.
Local trainers Tony Missen, Richard Williams, Jarred Hetherington, Brendan Hunt, Chris Sutherland and Sam Ison are all heading to the Dubbo meeting on Sunday afternoon with 11 horses amongst the group – that’s enough runners to make up a race! The first race set to go at 1pm.
