Crofters Tartan Weavers, Fred and Marie Lawson explained how the various colours represented the black soil, crops and aquifers of the Liverpool Plains.
Tartan is without a doubt one of the most important symbols of Scotland and Scottish Heritage. Fred and Marie are hobby crofters who live on a farm at Spring Ridge. Crofting is derived from a traditional social system in Scotland defined by small-scale production.
Piper Gavin Shaw from the Liverpool Plains Shire Pipe Band provided another Celtic element to the launch.
Fred and Marie’s Liverpool Plains Tartan design has been registered with the Scottish Tartan Registry.
There will be a Tartan Display at the Visitor Information Centre for the next couple of weeks. .
