TAMWORTH’S newly established youth council are getting down to business with plans tackle issues in the region around unemployment and mental health.
The young leaders have agreed “there is a real lack of employment opportunities for young people within the region”.
The group has called on Tamworth Regional Council to establish a website or social media page where employment opportunities or training opportunities for young locals can be posted and accessed.
Plans are also under way for a youth event to be hosted in Bicentennial Park late the year to “raise some awareness about issues facing young people in the region (including mental health and safety)”.
Mental health has been a key issue for the youth council to tackle since its first meeting in April where it identified a “dis-connect between schools and services.”
Vandalism is also on the radar for the youth council with plans mooted for a public graffiti wall to be established in a central location for people to express themselves
