On Easter Sunday the village of Woolbrook came alive with the running of the annual Stampede at the Sportsground.

The day started with the Walcha Veterinary Supplies Maiden Campdraft which saw local Jackson Noon and Anna Lowrey run off for the title, with Jackson coming out on top with Bay Cinder.
Next event was the Pittson’s Novice Campdraft which saw another run off with Ned Clarke and Deane Woods. Ned come away with the win, riding Stetson.
Bonnie Smith and Soho proved to be a successful combination in the Tim & Belinda Laurie Ladies Campdraft, taking home the blue ribbon.
The Tony Williams Juvenile Campdraft was won by Olivia Taffe riding Chook and the Burke & Smyth Junior Campdraft was won by Jessica Swanton riding Rocky.
The sporting events got under way with around 30 kids and adults participating.
The competition was fast and furious and the ‘Pony most suitable for school children’ was won by Riley Cummings and Blackie.
The Stock Horse competition was won by Cameron Turner. Then it was time for the Les & Beulah Green Championship events. The Championship Flag race saw Chloe Swanton take the ribbon. Olivia Taffe won the championship bending race and Ross Green showed the younger competitors how to win the championship barrel race.
Stockman’s Chop U/17 title went to first time competitor Chloe Swanton. It was then onto the Vic Robson Memorial Stockman’s Chop where Ross Green came through for a stirring win.
Ross has always wanted to win this event after watching Father Les Green and Vic Robson competing against each other whilst growing up.
Winner of the Brady’s Saddlery Highest Cut out was won by Brett Schiffman.
The John Stanton Trophy which is awarded for Horsemanship, Encouragement and Sportsmanship was won by Chloe Swanton.
When it came to dog racing there were dogs arriving from all parts of the ground and this provided some great entertainment for the crowd. Christine Jones took out the small dog section.
The day concluded with the Final of the Nerstane Open Campdraft which saw Singleton competitor Warren Richards come out on top by one point riding Boon.
