Bank manager Deb Flentjar said Westpac first opened in Tamworth on December 15, 1856, becoming the town’s first bank and just the six bank in the state.
“The Tamworth branch is not far behind Westpac’s major milestone, having being around for 160 years,” Ms Flentjar said.
“We are delighted to support people and businesses in our community.”
To mark the momentous occasion, Tamworth mayor Col Murray was invited to cut the 200th birthday cake, while the Tamworth Westpac Helicopter Service crew set up a barbecue on the footpath.
The bank’s 200th customer of the day also received a bouquet of flowers.
