This is my last message for the year, and what a year it has been. We have celebrated so many key milestones and achievements as a community, including the first birthdays of the Tamworth Regional Playground and the Tamworth Regional Youth Centre. Both events were significant in their encouragement of youth activities in our community and are a demonstration of our support of youth within the Region.

Even as recently as this week, nominations have opened for the Tamworth Regional Youth Council, where youth aged between 15 and 18 can raise matters that are important to them, and act as advocates for the younger community on significant strategies to improve engagement with youth in the region.
On reflection, staff at Tamworth Regional Council offices and outdoor teams around the region have played a big part in contributing to the success of several campaigns held throughout the year, the two most notable are the Australian Red Cross ‘Red 25’ Blood Donation Challenge, of which TRC beat all other Councils of their size, and the recent ‘Movember’ campaign, where Tamworth Regional Council staff campaigned to the tune of over $6,000 – placing us the second highest fundraising Council in Australia. This is a credit to the generosity not only of our staff, but of their friends, family and the wider community.
As we move into the summer, we are fast approaching the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival which is looking to be better than ever. The ten days of Festival will attract many visitors to the Region, and we are encouraging not only country music fanatics, but anyone looking for a great festival experience to come along.
I would like to remind residents that Council offices and some facilities will be closed over the Christmas period. Offices around the region will close on Friday 23 December and re-open on Tuesday 3 January.
Residents with urgent requirements during this period can contact Council by calling 6767 5555.
My best wishes to the residents of our great Tamworth Region on a Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous New Year.
Mayor Col Murray
