Players will tee off from 7am each day, North West Schools Sports Association sports organiser Richard Rowlings said.
Armidale pair Jack Carey and Toby Cooper are joined by Tamworth’s Jock McPherson (Peel) and Tom Gill (Farrer) in the North West team while Moree’s Bree Purse tees off in the girls’ All Schools event.
Gordon Rae manages the North West contingent.
“Tom (Gill) is our number one player,” Rowlings said.
“He’s playing off scratch, I believe, but there are a few players off plus 2 and 3 as well.
“We do have a lot of low handicappers in the girls as well.”
The Secondary All Schools follows the North and North West District Ladies Golf Association Open at Tamworth and the Central North District Golf Association Championships at the Longyard Golf Club in Tamworth.
The CNDGA Championships attracted about 70 players to its 18-hole stroke championship where Gill was the junior champion, carding a four over par 76 to finish one shot adrift of championship winners Ben Lockwood and Andrew Brennan.
Brennan and Lockwood shot three over par 75s to end the reign of Gunnedah’s Luke Streater.
Longyard Golf Club captain Trevor Leese is hoping the good turnout at the 2016 Championships is the start of an upsurge in interest and results for the annual titles.
“We worked hard to make it a success after a few ordinary years.
“Hopefully this can be the start of the revival of the event.”
He’s also hopeful promotion of the CNDGA Championships will increase as well.
The CNDGA Championships followed closely on the annual North and North West District Ladies Golf Association Open which drew 150 lady golfers to Tamworth for the three-day open and foursomes championships in early June.
