During the State of Origin series, Coles supermarkets in both states are selling raffle tickets as part of its annual Cheer for the Kids campaign that fundraises for children’s hospitals.
Money raised by NSW stores is earmarked for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, while Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital will benefit from the money raised in its state.
So the competition is on to see which state beats the other’s fund- raising total.
Coles Peel St Tamworth manager Lachlan Stewart said, while competition was fierce, it was friendly.
“As a dad, I hope I never have to go to Sydney Children’s Hospital, but it’s vital it is there for all children, if or when it is needed,” Mr Stewart said.
“As the Queensland stores are also fundraising for their children’s hospital, what better time for a bit of friendly state rivalry than during the Origin series.”
The Peel St Coles team kicked off the fundraising yesterday by dressing in blue in support of the NSW Origin team and encouraging shoppers to buy raffle tickets at the checkout.
The raffle first prize in each state is a Holden Cruze supplied by the charity’s partners, Holden and Coca-Cola Amatil.
Tickets are for sale all three Tamworth Coles supermarkets until June 21.
