A Big W Tamworth spokeswoman said the last minute shopping rush was in full swing on Christmas Eve.
“Over the festive period, many customers have been through the doors at Big W Tamworth, with the most popular purchases in our wide toy and books range,” she said.
“We’ve had a busy Christmas period and expect this will continue on Boxing Day with shoppers wanting to make the most of our sales.”
People were still flowing through the doors of Aussie Bush Leather when The Leader talked to them on Christmas Eve afternoon.
“We’ve got a fair few people here now, but we were getting slammed last night and this morning,” staffer Debbie Robb said.
“It’s been belts, wallets and handbags this year.”
Sandy McKinnon Jewellers had more than their fair share of last- minute shoppers.
“A lot of hubbies leave the shopping to the last minute, so we’ve had a few of those in,” staff member Jill Jeffery said.
And while Christmas has come and gone, the shopping doesn’t stop there.
Stores across the region will be open on Boxing Day for the first time today and Aussies are tipped to spend more than $2 billion snapping up bargains.
A Tamworth Kmart spokesperson said the store is expecting a large uplift in store traffic and sales on today.
“Summer holiday products will be popular, such as inflatable pool/beach items, camping and New Year’s celebration products,” they said.
