Cameron was a junior member of the Nemingha side that lost last year’s final to Newport Public, but this year it was the young all-rounders time to shine, and she didn’t miss out.
In the competition’s five games Cameron pummelled over 255 runs at an average of 255, only losing her wicket in the final after smashing a match high 37 from a pace attack coached by former Australian great Stuart Clarke.
The skipper also took 13 wickets at an average of just over four as she lead the side from the front.
The girls travelled to Maitland for the four team finals day on Tuesday, meeting South Wagga in the semi.
The bowling attack made short work of their opponents as they collapsed to be all out for just 41, before Cameron almost single-handedly scored the runs in six overs.
Deni Baker took 3-4, while Nellie Palmer, Cameron and Sophie Corbett took two each.
In reply Cameron smashed an unbeaten 36 at the top of the order, passing the total in the seventh over and making her intentions for the Newport final clear as her batting partners Demi Baker and Brianna Elliott finished on one and five respectively.
Manager and deputy principal David Lewis said tactics played a big part in the victory as well, after the side learnt their lesson last year.
“We fielded 25 overs in the morning last year and then went straight back out to field first in the final,” Lewis said.
“This year we won the tosses and bowled first in the semi and second in the final while Newport had to field straight away again.”
The skippers secret to winning both tosses is an old classic.
“Tails never fails in NSW,” Cameron said.
In the final Cameron and Baker (10) put on an epic 60 run first stand, although when Cameron fell the order collapsed, losing all 10 wickets for just 23 runs as they were bowled out for 83.
Newport replied with similar tactics at the top to be 0-30 after just four overs.
Cameron then stepped up with a quick three wickets to disable the Newport top order and trigger a huge collapse that would also see them lose 10 wickets for just 23 runs to be all out for just 63.
Nellie Palmer matched the skipper with 3-10 as well.
“It was a great day and win,” Lewis said.
“We have never won before and it was good to beat Newport after last year.”
“The whole team has just been great – they really saved their best for last.”
