The five-year-old gelding son of Casino Prince has had just the 16 starts and triumphed for the second time yesterday when he raced away to a three and half length win in the 2050m staying test at Gunnedah.
It was another good ride from Glenn Lynch, who never went around another horse.
He is making up for lost time too after spending two months on the sideline with a broken tibula.
His first ride back at Tamworth yielded a win.
Hilton thought it another good ride as well for a little gelding who is lucky to be alive, let alone racing.
After purchasing him at the Patinack Dispersal Sale, Hilton had gone to Birdsville and sent Elegies to Warwick with a strapper.
“Just before they jumped, he reared and got his foot caught in a hinge in the barriers,” Hilton said.
“It took them three quarters of an hour to get him out.
“They actually rang me to see if they could put him down. But I said unless he’s got a broken shoulder not to.
“They had to get the fire brigade in the end to get him out.
“It’s taken him a long time to get over that but he has been going good,” he said.
“He’s an honest little bloke. He’s out of a half sister to Might and Power too.”
Hilton might spell Elegies now, give him a month off and bring him back for some races in the summer.
“There’s nothing around for him at the moment, no lower class distance races,” he said.
