Club president Robert Sweep and his committee provided an excellent venue with the greens immaculate.
“We had a real good weekend,” Sweep said on Sunday.
“All the players were happy.
‘The greens played well – the boys reckoned they were the best they’ve played on for a while.
“That was good to hear.”
On Saturday afternoon, South Tamworth’s Nathan Wise beat New England’s John McIlwaine 31-24 to win the Zone 3 singles title.
Gwdir’s Greg Wilkins (from Inverell) won the State Presidents Singles with a 31-28 win over New England’s Brian Lockyer while Walgett’s Ray Dixon, the North West representative, beat New England’s Richie Clutterbuck 31-25 on Sunday morning in the State Seniors Singles.
The playoffs started Saturday morning when John Mcilwaine defeated Gwydir’s R. Hook 31-29 and Nathan Wise (Central North) defeated Barwon’s Rex Skuthorpe 31-19 in semi-finals of the Zone 3 singles.
Wise, equal second in the CNDBA Bowler of the Year Award, continued his good form to defeat Mcilwaine by seven shots in 34 ends of high quality bowls.
In the seniors on Saturday morning, Ray Dixon defeated Ray Brown (Barwon) 31-13 and backed up to defeat Ian Bannister (CNDBA) 31-17 in the afternoon.
Armidale’s Richie Clutterbuck defeated Gwydir’s J. Ross on his way to a Sunday morning final and a six-shot loss to Dixon.
In the President’s Reserve singles, Brian Lockyer (New England) defeated North West’s D. Dewar 31-23 and Inverell’s Greg Wilkins defeated the CNDBA’s Neville Williams 31-27 before matching up in the afternoon final.
Wilkins beatLockyer 31-28 over 38 ends, a fine effort from the Zone 3 councillor.
All three winners will go on to the State Finals, the top 16 players in each division playing at Ettalong in October.
Meanwhile, Erle Stockdale hosted his President’s Day at Willow Tree Bowling Club on Sunday.
His partners for the day were Paul Bowd, Ralph Stockdale and Doc Bonner while the CNDBA was represented by president Rob Key, Brian Jamieson and Phylis Key.
Winners were the Manilla quartet of Ryan and Graeme Wells, Noel Edgar and Daryl McDonald.
Stockdale thanked everyone who helped in any way to make his sixth and final President’s Day the success it was.
The CNDBA annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 7pm in the West Tamworth Bowling Club Function Centre.
Nomination forms have been sent out by email to clubs – all bowlers are asked to consider nominating for a district position.
