The green Toyota Echo hatchback struck the horse float, which was parked by the kerb outside a home in Bligh St, at about 3.30pm.
The force of the impact deployed the driver’s side airbag, popped the left front tyre and caused the car’s horn to jam.
Upon hearing a loud bang residents rushed out of their homes and went to the occupants’ assistance. One man managed to deactivate the horn while emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance crews, were called to the scene.
Witnesses said the child, estimated to be about three years old, was bleeding from her mouth.
