ERIN Osborne’s World Twenty20 success will be celebrated in the presence of the Tamworth star at Tamworth’s Ian Butch Southwell Cricket House today.
And Tamworth District Cricket and Central North Zone officials have thrown Cricket House open to the whole community to join in the welcome home for one of Tamworth’s finest sportspeople. Central North Zone development manager, Kathy Barber, initiated what will be a noon celebration for “Tamworth’s latest sporting T20 cricket World Champion”.
“Erin returns home to Tamworth this week for some family time and R & R over the Easter long weekend,” Barber told The Leader.
“Tamworth Cricket and Central North Zone would like to officially welcome Erin back to town as a triple T20 Women’s World Cup Cricket Champion.
“The Southern Stars have been back on home soil for just on a week now, bringing home the T20 World Cup from Bangladesh for the third time running. This achievement is amazing for a young lady who grew up in Tamworth and still calls this home, where with her family she developed a great passion for the game of cricket.
“We wish to extend an invitation to members of the local cricket community to join Erin for a chat and photo opportunity where she looks forward to sharing her winning 3 peat experience with you all.”
Central North Zone chairman Terry Psarakis said the official welcome is the least cricket officialdom could do in Tamworth.
“She’s been an outstanding ambassador for Tamworth cricket,” Psarakis said.
“The whole family has. Her older brother, Sean, played for the Canberra Comets, Central North an Country and toured England with the NSW Schoolboys. Her other brother, Troy, scored his first ton in first grade this season for our South Tamworth side. He’s also an outstanding goalkeeper and played football in the US College system before returning home and helping Tamworth FC to a couple of Premier League premierships.
“But CNZ has had a great season. We had five players named in the NSW Country Under 16 merit squad after the Kookaburra Cup - Jye Paterson (Tamworth), Jarrod Watts and Tom Brooks (Hunter Valley), Coby Cornish (Narrabri) and Paddy Montgomery (Moree).
We also had four in the NSW Country Under 19 merit side - Giles Manley, Jono Maloney and Jayden Park and James (Psarakis) from Tamworth.
“We also had two boys selected to attend the NSW Country Players Coaching Camp in Sydney, Narrabri’s Ryan Meppem and Pat Magann from the Hunter. Pat was also named in the NSW Under 17 squad.
“So I hope everyone cane join us for a few nibbles at Cricket House and celebrate a wonderful achievement by Erin.”
