A SKATE park design workshop is among the exciting events following on from this year’s Youth Week across the Tamworth Region.
The workshop, which is set to take place at 4pm on Wednesday at The Youthie, will be held to further develop conceptual design ideas for the new skate park which will be built adjacent to the new youth centre in Centenary Park, Coledale.
Tamworth Regional Council youth services co-ordinator Steve Blanch hopes young people take the opportunity to get involved.
“We would particularly like to see young people who currently use the Tamworth skate park in Peel St or access The Youthie to join the workshop,” he said.
Youth Week 2014, which started last Friday, is a 10-day celebration of young people in communities across Australia.
In the Tamworth region, events include competitions, live bands, disco and a day-long festival, which are all free except the band night.
A skate, scooter and BMX competition was held at the Tamworth skate park on Saturday.
The Youthfest Festival will be held in Bicentennial Park from noon to 6pm today and will include a Nerf Fun Zone, art zone, hip hop caravan and food and drink stalls.
The line up of youth artists and performers include Traces, P10U5, Michelle Nugent, Summon the Abyss, Rita Walford, Snap Back and Something Like That. The day will culminate in a fun run inspired by the latest trend where participants are dusted with colourful natural food dyes.
A Friday Night Lights Disco will also be held at Tamworth Town Hall from 7.30pm to 11pm tonight.
Tomorrow The Youthie will host a pool competition from 2pm, plus a table tennis competition from 4pm.
Prizes will be on offer for both.
Six bands – Fresh Nelson, Staunch, Hourglass, Ambleside, Pasha Bulka and Grays Sports Almanac - will play at The Youthie from 7.30pm to 10.30pm tomorrow night. Entry costs $6 per person.
