Northcott’s Tamworth life skills co-ordinator Paul Chambers said the Centre Based Life Skills program had no volunteers in the areas of music, art, gardening, cooking and computer skills.
He said volunteers were an important part of Northcott in other communities, providing skills and expertise to deliver services.
“Whether it is teaching our clients how to use instruments, forming a choir or creating artworks, volunteers play a huge role in the lives of clients and we want to bring those benefits to Tamworth,” Mr Chambers said.
“Caring, patience and a desire to share your passion or hobby is all you need.”
Northcott has 21 clients aged between 18 and 35 who attend the Goonoo Goonoo Rd facility Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm.
Clients participate in work experience with organisations around Tamworth, including Bunnings, Meals on Wheels and childcare centres, learn a range of life skills from shopping and cooking, to attending the digital hub at Tamworth Regional Library and even sailing on Lake Keepit.
Mr Chambers said they were always looking to get their clients more involved in the community and volunteers were a wonderful way of doing this.
They weren’t looking for a big commitment from prospective helpers, he said, even a few hours a week is enough to make a big difference in someone’s life.
